Résumé

There is a growing awareness of sustainable development issues. Supply chain actors are increasingly aware of this situation, especially as regulatory, social and societal pressures in this area are growing. This situation is not without consequences for business practices. Thus, the urban warehouse model is one of the solutions studied in the context of urban logistics, an emerging research field that addresses the sustainable development of goods flow management practices in city centers. This thesis is part of a Cifre research contract carried out in partnership with La Poste, the French post office company, which is seeking to develop a national network of urban warehouses as part of local logistics services. This work provides two main contributions. On the one hand, the lack of a generic model required defining the concept of urban warehouse and specifying the components of the model (characteristics, constraints and challenges). On the other hand, in order to optimize the internal processes of these new logistic facilities, a proposal of new tools, drawn from Industry 4.0, was made. Its objective is to improve customer satisfaction at lower costs, by integrating the constraints of the field and responding to current issues. The work was carried out in several stages. First, two state of the art studies explored the scientific literature, on the one hand, on urban warehouses, and on the other hand, on 4.0 practices observed in traditional distribution warehouses, analyzed as an interesting perspective for the improvement of urban warehouse processes. Then, based on the field observation data and the conclusions of the state of the art, the components of the urban warehouse model were defined in order to identify the constraints and challenges of these facilities, impacting their development in a sustainable way. The definition of these components led to the proposal of a process improvement by using adapted tools from Industry 4.0. Finally, a case study was conducted, with real data of a customer and the application of a methodology of intelligent systems design, on the application of one of the proposed 4.0 tools. The systems studied were automated storage and retrieval systems, which were identified as relevant to address the challenges of land optimization, modularity, reconfigurability and sustainability of urban warehouses. This study allowed us to observe the consequences of the implementation of such a system on the performance of these facilities.
